Family festival
When: 3 December to 3 January 2012
Where: 700th anniversary stadium,
Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai province.
“It’s a new event and it should help to restore the mood to travel in the country once more,” said TAT deputy governor for domestic marketing, Thawatchai Arunyik.
Floods hit Thailand last August and Chiang Mai was one of the first northern provinces to suffer with 16 districts inundated resulting in an estimated damage of Bt8 billion. However, the water receded quickly and had little impact on tourist arrivals since.
Hosted by Keng Karj Kijjakam Company, the family event will feature nine activity zones: Doraemon House; Kid Theater; Play Zone; Tunnel of Fun; Kite Show; Food Zone; Kid House; Game Zone and Stage.
“We are targetting 600,000 domestic visitors,” said Keng Karj Kijjakam managing director, Passara Kasemsuwan, who said it would probably attract the most visitors from surrounding districts and provinces.
Very little publicity has been given to the event and it is unlikely to have an impact on Bangkok residents who still face a serious flood threat to their homes and livelihoods.
