Thai Massage in Chiang Mai: Seven Places, Prices and Hours

Thai massage around the Old City spans a wide price range, from tok sen at B100-350 to Lila’s hot stone massage from THB 1,200. Six of these seven are places to get a massage; the seventh, Old Medicine Hospital, is a school.

Lila Thai Massage: the price list and the mission

Lila has four treatments with a starting price each: traditional Thai massage from THB 400 for 1 hour, oil body massage from THB 650 for 1 hour. Its signature Lila Thai Complete Massage is a 2-hour herbal compress massage from THB 890, and hot stone is from THB 1,200 for 1.5 hours.

Lila was established by Naowarat Thanasrisutharat, former Director of Chiang Mai Women’s Prison (2001–2008), to help newly released inmates re-entering society.

• Good for: reading a price list before you go.
• Good for: a long herbal session. The 2-hour signature massage is from THB 890.
• Good for: a late evening. Lila is open daily 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and the Prapokklao branch keeps the same hours.
• Skip if: you want a temple-hall price. Wat Pan Whaen at B180-300 undercuts Lila’s THB 400 start.

Wat Pan Whaen Thai Massage: the temple hall

Time Out calls Wat Pan Whaen the largest of Chiang Mai’s temple massage halls. It describes a huge, long hall with over a dozen people being treated at any given time. The hall charges B180-300 and is open daily 9am-6pm.

• Good for: a low price, B180-300.
• Good for: Tok Sen. Locals are in for Tok Sen.
• Skip if: you want a quiet, luxurious room. It is not a luxurious or tranquil place.
• Skip if: you want an evening slot. The hall is listed 9am-6pm.

You can often walk in and nab an appointment, particularly in the low, rainy season, although it does get busy. A private space is cornered off for oil massage.

Wat Sri Suphan: tok sen at the Silver Temple

The tok sen booth at Wat Sri Suphan is down the lane on the left side of the temple complex. It is listed at B100-350, 10am-5pm, on Wua Lai Road. Time Out dates that listing 16 July 2025.

The two practitioners are usually booked a week ahead. The booking number is 0832598289. If you do not speak Thai, ask a Thai speaker to phone for you.

• Skip if: you want to walk in today. Slots are usually booked a week ahead.
• Skip if: you want a standard Thai massage. The listing is for tok sen.

Wat Si Koet: two small parlours at the temple gate

Two parlours stand inside Wat Si Koet: Rompho Thai Massage on the left of the entrance gate and Sigoet Massage on the right. Rom Pho is B150-220, 9am-7pm, closed Sundays. Sigoet is B160-250, 9am-6pm.

Rompho is larger, so a walk-in is more likely to see a therapist quickly. The smaller Sigoet is air conditioned and has a longer menu, with Tok Sen and oil massage.

• Good for: a low price at the temple gate, from B150 at Rom Pho.
• Good for: tok sen or oil massage in an air-conditioned room, at Sigoet.
• Skip if: you want a Sunday slot at Rom Pho. It is closed Sundays.
• Skip if: you want a booking line. There is no booking line, so walk in.

Antique Massage: private room and pick-up

Antique offers a pick-up service, a warm massage bed and “100% Natural”. It has a private room and is a Certified Thai Wellness Center by MOPH Thailand.

• Good for: a late evening. The Garden House branch lists 10:00 - 22:00 daily.
• Good for: a private room and a pick-up service.
• Skip if: you plan by price. No rates are published, so ask when you book.

The branch list gives the Garden House phone as 091-566-5569. That number belongs to the Garden House branch at Antique’s Nantharam Road address.

Refresh Thai Massage: the Ratchamanka Road stop

Refresh sits on Ratchamanka Road in the Old City and is open 11 AM to 10 PM every day. Its phone is +66 89 838 2588.

• Good for: a stop on Ratchamanka Road inside the Old City.
• Skip if: you plan around a menu. No rates are published, so phone before you go.

Old Medicine Hospital: a school, not a massage shop

Old Medicine Hospital Thai Massage School Shivagakomarpaj was established in 1962 by Master Sintorn Chaichakan. The school does not provide massage services, and the massage shop next door is a separate business. The shop’s phone is +66 053-275-085.

Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 begin every Monday, from 9 am to 4 pm. A one-day intensive costs THB 3,500 for 6 hours.

Thai Massage Fundamentals 1 (30 hours) costs THB 6,500, with books, class material and a certificate. Introduction to Thai Massage meets Monday to Wednesday for 18 hours.

• Good for: learning Thai massage from a school that dates its start to 1962.
• Skip if: you want a massage. The school does not provide one, and the shop next door is separate.

When to go and how long

Nearby and how to combine it

Wat Pan Whaen closes at 6pm, while Lila and Antique stay open to 10 PM. That makes the temple hall an afternoon stop and the other two an evening one. Combine a massage with a morning cooking class, the night markets, or a walk to Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh.
